Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is a water treatment process designed to remove suspended solids, oil, grease, and other contaminants from water.

Unlike traditional methods that rely on gravity to make heavy particles sink (sedimentation), DAF uses the opposite approach: it makes particles float to the surface by attaching them to tiny air bubbles.

The basic principle of dissolved air flotation (DAF) is to dissolve a large amount of gas (usually air) into water under high pressure, allowing the gas to fully dissolve. When the pressure is released to normal, the dissolved gas in the water rapidly precipitates, forming numerous tiny bubbles, typically ranging in diameter from tens to hundreds of micrometers. These bubbles are evenly distributed throughout the water, attaching to suspended particles, organic matter, and oils, reducing their density and causing them to float to the surface, forming a scum layer. Subsequently, a scum scraper removes the scum in a timely manner, achieving highly efficient water purification.

Traditional clarifiers work well for sand and gravel, but they fail for:
* Low-density particles: Things like algae, bacteria, or activated sludge that are almost the same density as water (they take days to settle).
* Oil and Grease: These naturally float but are hard to collect efficiently without agitation.
