What is PAM/PAC Chemical Dosing Equipment?
PAM/PAC Chemical Dosing Equipment is a specialized system designed to prepare, store, and inject specific chemicals—Polyacrylamide (PAM) and Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC)—into wastewater treatment processes.
While both chemicals are used for coagulation and flocculation, they have very different physical properties (PAC is a liquid, PAM is a powder). Therefore, the "equipment" required for each is distinct, though they are often used together in a single system.
PAC Dosing System (The Liquid Path)
PAC is typically purchased as a concentrated liquid (10-30% solution).
* Storage Tank: A corrosion-resistant tank (usually PE/Polyethylene or FRP) to store the liquid PAC.
* Agitator (Mixer): While PAC is liquid, it can settle over time. A mixer prevents sedimentation.
* Metering Pump: A diaphragm metering pump (or peristaltic pump) draws the PAC from the tank and injects it into the wastewater line.
* Y-Strainer: A filter on the suction side of the pump to catch any debris or undissolved particles that could clog the pump valves.

PAM Dosing System (The Powder Path)
PAM is almost always purchased as a powder and must be mixed with water on-site. This requires a multi-stage process.
* Dry Powder Feeder: A hopper with a screw conveyor that meters the exact amount of PAM powder into the water stream.
* Dissolution/Make-Down Tank: This is the "heart" of the PAM system. It mixes the powder with water in a specific sequence:
Wetting: The powder is introduced into a high-shear water stream to prevent "fish-eyes" (lumps).
Mixing: A low-shear mixer dissolves the powder without breaking the long polymer chains.
Hydration: PAM needs time to "bloom" (fully dissolve). This usually takes 30-60 minutes.
* Aging Tank: A secondary tank where the PAM solution sits to ensure it is 100% dissolved before use.
* Dosing Pump: A peristaltic pump is often preferred here because PAM solutions can be viscous and shear-sensitive.
How the AM/PAC Chemical Dosing Equipment Works Together
In a typical wastewater treatment plant, the equipment is arranged in a specific order:
1. Raw Wastewater enters the system.
2. PAC Dosing: The PAC pump injects the coagulant first. This neutralizes the electrical charge of the particles in the water.
3. Flash Mixing: The PAC and water are mixed vigorously (usually in a pipe or tank) for a few seconds.
4. PAM Dosing: The PAM pump injects the flocculant second. This bridges the neutralized particles into large clumps (flocs).
5. Flocculation: The water moves slowly through a basin, allowing the flocs to grow heavy enough to settle or float.
Benefits of PAM/PAC Chemical Dosing Equipment
* PAM-Specific Mixing Technology: High-shear agitators prevent “fish eyes” (undissolved polymer lumps) during powder dissolution.
* PAC Corrosion Resistance: Wetted parts in PP, PVC, or SS316L withstand acidic PAC solutions (pH 2–4).
* Dual-Chemical Integration: Single skid handles both PAC (coagulant) and PAM (flocculant) with independent preparation and dosing circuits.
* Aging Time Control: Programmable maturation tanks ensure PAM chains fully activate (typically 30–60 mins) for maximum flocculation efficiency.
* Flow-Proportional Dosing: Real-time adjustment based on influent flow rate—no manual recalibration needed.
* Compact & Skid-Mounted: Factory-assembled, tested, and ready for fast field installation.
