What Is Bar Screening?

Bar screening is the first mechanical process in a wastewater treatment plant or a water intake system. Its primary job is to remove large physical objects from the water before it undergoes more complex treatment.

COYON's bar screening wastewater treatment is a heavy-duty, high-efficiency solid-liquid separation solution tailored for front-end filtration in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment projects. Its core mission is to intercept and remove harmful inorganic solids from water streams, effectively protecting downstream pumps, filters, and other treatment equipment from clogging or damage. With a robust structural design that endures harsh working conditions from high-sediment industrial wastewater to corrosive municipal sewage, this bar screening system delivers consistent performance and long service life, making it a cornerstone of reliable water treatment processes.

Bar Screening In Wastewater Treatment

Working Mechanism: Efficient & Automatic Cleaning

The bar screening in wastewater treatment operates on an intelligent circular cleaning principle. A closed rake tooth chain is assembled by staggering and paralleling numerous identical rake tooth components. Driven by a motor and reducer, the chain performs continuous top-to-bottom circular motion via a set of pulleys and transmission chains, enabling non-stop fishing of solid debris in water.

When the rake tooth chain moves to the upper back of the equipment, the parallel rake tooth rows dislocate smoothly under the guidance of sprockets and curved rails. This ingenious design allows captured solid dirt to fall freely into the slag trough by its own weight, achieving automatic self-cleaning without manual intervention. The whole process ensures unobstructed water flow while maintaining high debris removal efficiency, adapting flexibly to continuous or intermittent operation demands.

Benefits of Bar Screening Wastewater Treatment

Our bar screening wastewater treatment stands out with practical advantages that directly reduce operational costs and enhance process reliability:

Full Stainless Steel Construction for Corrosion Resistance

The entire bar screening system adopts stainless steel materials, paired with durable stainless steel roller chains. This design provides excellent corrosion and wear resistance, perfectly adapting to humid, corrosive working environments such as sewage treatment plants-significantly extending equipment service life and reducing replacement costs.

Replaceable Rake Teeth for Low Maintenance

Rake teeth are designed as independent replaceable components. When individual teeth are worn or damaged, only the faulty parts need to be replaced instead of the entire chain. This modular design greatly lowers maintenance costs and shortens downtime, ensuring continuous system operation.

Low-Cost Operation & Comprehensive Protection

The lower chain guide is maintenance-free, eliminating the need for frequent lubrication or adjustment. For special working conditions, an optional lower sprocket assembly is available to further enhance operational stability. Additionally, the system can be equipped with a weather protection system and removable odor control covers, adapting to diverse environmental requirements. An optional explosion-proof design is also offered for hazardous industrial scenarios.

High Removal Efficiency & Low Head Loss

Multiple rakes work simultaneously to clean the screen surface, and the rake teeth penetrate deeply into the bar openings to ensure thorough removal of captured debris. This design not only guarantees high removal efficiency but also minimizes water head loss, reducing energy consumption of subsequent water pumps.

Applications of Bar Screening In Wastewater Treatment

With strong adaptability to different water quality and working conditions, the bar screening wastewater treatment is widely used in key industries requiring reliable solid interception:

* Petrochemical & Refinery Facilities: Intercepts solid impurities in oily wastewater, preventing damage to downstream oil-water separation equipment and ensuring smooth operation of refining processes.

* Slaughterhouses & Food Processing Plants: Removes animal residues, food scraps, and other solid debris from wastewater, avoiding pipeline blockages and reducing the load on subsequent biological treatment systems.

* Power Generation Plants (Thermal & Hydropower): Filters suspended solids in cooling water and circulating water, protecting heat exchangers and water turbines from abrasion and scaling.

* Marine & Port Facilities: Treats ballast water and port washing water by removing floating debris and sediment, complying with marine environmental protection regulations.

* Mining & Mineral Processing: Separates mineral particles and sludge from mining wastewater, reducing environmental pollution and facilitating water recycling in mining operations.
