How Ion Exchange Resin Water Filter Works

 

Unlike carbon or sediment filters, resin water filters work through reversible chemical exchange. As water passes through the resin bed, undesirable ions (e.g., Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Fe²⁺, Pb²⁺, NO₃⁻) bind to charged sites on the resin beads, releasing benign ions in return. The resin is then regenerated using salt, acid, or caustic-restoring its capacity for thousands of cycles.
