Quartz Sand Filter Tanks – NSF-Certified Pressure Vessels for Efficient Suspended Solids Removal in Municipal & Industrial Water Systems
Turbid water clogs pipes, damages equipment, and fails regulatory standards. Our quartz sand filter tanks provide reliable, low-maintenance filtration down to 25–50 microns - removing sand, silt, rust, algae, and organic particles from raw water sources. Engineered as robust pressure vessels with precision-engineered laterals and NSF/ANSI 61-certified wetted parts, our sand filter systems are the go-to solution for drinking water plants, industrial process lines, swimming pools, irrigation networks, and decentralized treatment worldwide.

How Quartz Sand Filtration Works
A quartz sand filter tank uses a bed of high-purity silica sand as the primary filtration media. As water flows downward through the sand bed, suspended solids are trapped in the pore spaces between grains. Over time, the bed loads with contaminants, increasing pressure drop-triggering an automatic or manual backwash cycle that lifts and rinses the media, restoring filtration capacity without media replacement.
Vessel Material: FRP (standard), Epoxy-lined CS, or SS304/316 (optional)
Filtration Range: 25–50 microns (depending on sand grade and bed depth)
Flow Rates: 5–15 gpm/ft² (1.2–3.6 m³/h·m²) for optimal performance
No chemicals required: Physical filtration only-ideal for pre-treatment before RO, UV, or disinfection
Low operating cost: Only electricity for pumps and water for backwash

FAQ
Q1: What size sand filter tank do I need?
A: It depends on your flow rate and required filtration velocity. Example:
- For 50 GPM flow at 10 gpm/ft² → need 5 ft² filter area → ~30" diameter tank
We'll calculate the exact size based on your application-just share your flow and water source.
Q2: Can I use this tank with other media like anthracite or activated carbon?
A: Yes! Our tanks support multi-media filtration (e.g., anthracite on top, sand below, garnet at bottom) for enhanced particle removal and longer run times. We can design the bed configuration and provide all media.
Q3: How often does the sand need to be replaced?
A: Typically every 5–7 years in municipal/industrial use, or 3–5 years in pools. Signs it's time:
- Shorter filter runs
- Poor water clarity despite backwashing
- Sand turning dark or clumping
We offer media replacement kits and services.
